NCCA launches RTW design competition using Philippine indigenous textiles

In an effort to promote and popularize the colorful textile patterns from various cultural communities in the Philippines, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts is inviting professional and emerging fashion designers to create RTW (ready to wear) clothes for everyday use.

General Guidelines:
The competition is open to all interested students, designers from the different fashion/ clothing lines, and professional designers.
Competitors should be Filipino citizens.
The ethnicity of the design should not be token, e.g. just traditional motifs on the collar, pockets of cuffs, but should cover at least one-third of the total clothing.
While the contemporary, innovative and practical designs are encouraged, the final product (clothes) should clearly bear the ethnic source, i.e. Gaddang, Ilokano, Kapampangan, Subanen, Tboli, Yakan
The sources of traditional woven materials could be any of the Philippine indigenous or traditional ethnic groups in the country, including peoples in the highlands, Muslim communities and lowland Christian communities.
The clothes must be eminently wearable, practical, comfortable, non-toxic and inexpensive, yet artistic and elegant which will be for use in office, school and other daily activities.
