Freeway launches 2016 National Artist Collectors' Series featuring Abdulmari Imao

In honoring Abdulmari Asia Imao by using his works as inspiration for its 2016 National Artist Collectors' Series, innovative local fashion brand Freeway is ensuring that, as it had done in previous editions, a larger audience will get to appreciate the artist whose vision has the ability to transcend mediums.

Imao's sculptures and paintings are translated into a 40-piece collection consisting of casual and dressy tops, graphic tees, jumpsuits and dresses. The collection, launched this week at Glorietta in Makati, features woven fabrics, georgettes, and thick knits with all pieces using comfortable stretch fabric. The #FreewayxImao Collection also offers unique and memorable gift items such as the popular canvas printed shopping bags, fans, coin purse, utility case and more.

Neoprene Overlay Top Sublimation Featuring Brass Sarimanok (P1,795)

Overlay Dress Sublimation Neoprene with Sari-Fish Print (P2,195)

Georgette Drawstring Sublimation Top (P1,595)

Each item will have a National Artist gift packaging and a bio-tag so that one can learn more about the life and works of Imao. With its special packaging, it is a thoughtful gift that blends art, history and fashion.

The launch event, hosted by ANC's Lexi Schulze, began with a viewing of Toym Imao's installation "A Sculptured Life", a visual representation of his father's artistic journey. Galleria Nicolas likewise lent some Imao sculptures and paintings from its collection for the guests to see.

This was followed by a fashion show and an interview with Toym, who was joined on stage by Art+ Magazine's editor-in-chief Duffie Hufana Osental.

In line with the artistic and nationalistic theme, the winners of the recently held Art Bag Design Contest were also presented at the event. Bags with the designs “Bugan” by Dondon Cerbito and “La Filipiniana Terno” by Leah Liza Advincula will be available at Freeway and The Row Stores nationwide.
