Francisco Cerundolo crowned champion of Chubb UTS Hong Kong 2025 with Humansa

(Hong Kong, 15 October, 2025) Finals day of "Chubb UTS Hong Kong 2025 with Humansa" saw a dominant Francisco Cerundolo claim the Hong Kong UTS championship over fellow UTS debutant Jenson Brooksby, while Coleman Wong delivered yet another spirited performance on home soil. Over 8,500 fans attended across the spectacular two-day event, enjoying a groundbreaking tennis experience and witnessing the successful conclusion of UTS’s Asian debut.

In overcoming a valiant Brooksby with a powerful display of controlled tennis, sweeping the American aside with a 3-1 Quarters win, a delighted Cerundolo secured a place in London’s Grand Finals in December in what was his first appearance at a UTS event.

“I’m super happy with my performance,” explained Francisco. “This has been a great event and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to play in the London finals with so many great players.  I have really enjoyed my time here and I hope the Hong Kong fans did too.”

He might not have won the tournament, but Coleman Wong certainly firmly cemented a winning place in the hearts and minds of a partisan Hong Kong audience at Kai Tak Arena.  Coleman and Frenchman Richard Gasquet put on a spectacular showcase of UTS tennis to thrill the fans in their drama-filled Classification match. The crowded arena cheered every drop shot and rally as tournament wildcard Wong delighted fans, pulling back into the match using his bonus card to strategic advantage in a late fourth Quarter comeback to secure a drama-filled sudden death finale and go on to win the match.

A delighter Coleman said, “This has been an incredible experience. The fans have been amazing. I feel that people in Hong Kong now really love tennis. I feel very fortunate to be able to help make that happen. There are not that many competitions where you can let go and have fun. But this is tennis, this is fun, this is UTS! I hope I can play many more.”

The two-day event attracted a total of over 8,500 tennis fans. With its fast-paced, thrilling, and entertaining format, UTS kept the entire audience engaged, offering a fresh and exciting tennis experience.

Mr. Michael Cheng, President of the HKCTA, said, “It has been fabulous to witness a packed Kai Tak Arena of excited tennis fans enjoy engaging in all the thrill, spills and fun of this innovative tennis event.  It has been particularly gratifying to see so many young fans getting involved and perhaps getting a first taste of the sport through all the skill and drama of this new format of competitive tennis.

“On behalf of the HKCTA I’d like to congratulate our worthy winner Francisco and thank all our line-up of star players for putting on such a tremendous showcase. I also wish to express our heartfelt appreciation for the support of our sponsors and the Hong Kong government for ensuring the success of this fabulous debut event.

“With the highly successful conclusion of this unique first tournament in the HKCTA’s 2025 Hong Kong Tennis Season, we hope to continue bringing more diverse tennis events to fans.”

Mr. Patrick Mouratoglou, UTS Tour Founder, remarked, “We are thrilled our very first UTS event in Asia here in Hong Kong has been such a resounding success.  Local tennis fans have really embraced the spirit of the UTS format, and their excitement and enthusiasm really contributed to the fun of the event for all the players.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this exciting and dynamic city and want to thank the HKCTA, the Hong Kong Government and all our sponsors for supporting us and making this event possible. I want to also thank all the players for their major contribution to the success of the tournament. The overall success of the event fills me with great confidence in the future of the UTS in Asia.”

In the first of the semifinal clashes earlier in the evening, a battling Jerry Shang took American Jenson Brooksby to a tie-break in the first Quarter, and a thrillingly tight second saw both strategically winning their bonus point cards, with Brooksby again just nicking the Quarter before securing his place in the final in Quarter 3.

In the second semifinal of the evening Francisco Cerundolo stormed to an early 1st Quarter win and, with Rublev suffering with several unforced errors, then also took the second Quarter despite a dramatic attempted Rublev fightback. The Argentinian then clinched his finals slot with a decisive 18-15 3rd Quarter win.

In the opening game of the evening, Zhang Zhizhen fell an early victim to Mannarino in their Classification encounter in straight Quarters, 3-0.

In addition to performing in front of fans the UTS stars took time off-court to experience the city’s sights.  Tournament stars Jerry Shang, Adrian Mannarino and Richard Gasquet enjoyed a flying visit to Hong Kong’s Ocean Park, while Zhang Zhizhen inspired schoolchildren with a special visit to S.H.K. St. Michael’s school.

The tennis stars also embarked on a series of fans and sponsor meet and greets, special coaching sessions and autograph signing opportunities joined by Australian tennis favourite Nick Kyrgios who delighted local fans in paying a special visit to bring his support the event.
