Mother and son exhibit 'echoes' at Kapitolyo Art Space

After her successful Philippine-homecoming last year for her first solo exhibition in years, New York-based artist Nanette Ana Maria Villanueva (Anama) returns to Manila for an art exhibit with her son Julian Raheb.

"Echoes in Two Voices: A Visual Dialogue Between Mother and Son" unites two distinct yet deeply connected artistic voices—that of a mother and her son—in a generational dialogue that explores their shared rhythms, divergent expressions, and their ongoing creative exchanges.

Julian Raheb is a Filipino American artist, pianist, and composer whose intricate pen-and-ink drawings reveal a dialogue between structure, rhythm, and emotion. His works reflect both discipline and discovery, exploring the human condition and the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. Each piece balances precision and imagination, transforming stillness into movement and thought into form.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Julian began drawing and playing piano at an early age and is now pursuing studies in computer science, continuing to explore the intersections of art, music, and technology.

Villanueva, meanwhile, continues to explore themes of resilience, renewal and the many different stages life goes through. Translated into visuals, Villanueva finds balance as he reflects on the sights and sounds around her, once again honoring growth and celebrating changes in the process.

"Echoes in Two Voices: A Visual Dialogue Between Mother and Son" runs until October 17, 2025 at Kapitolyo Art Space at 23 West Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig. By Dexter R. Matilla
