Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open awarded ‘Tournament of the Year’ for second consecutive year

Hong Kong - The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) announced today, the "Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025," an “M” Mark event organized by the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association, has stood out amongst global 250-level international Series events for the second consecutive year, successfully retaining the title as the "WTA Tournament of the Year" while also winning the "WTA Progress Award of the Year" for the very first time.

Launched in 2014, and held across eight editions, the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open has now been honored as the "WTA Tournament of the Year," for the third time, receiving the title in 2018, 2024, and 2025. The annual awards are determined by WTA players’ votes based on the tournament’s overall excellence in staffing and organization, fan passion and dedication to the sport and its athletes amongst other factors. The newly established "WTA Progress Award of the Year" celebrates the event's leadership, aspiration, and collective success.

The WTA has recognized the Hong Kong tournament as a prominent fixture on its calendar, consistently delivering excellence year after year. It noted that ongoing improvements in player hospitality, dining, and off‑court engagements continued to draw strong praise from players, coaches, and tournament personnel. The WTA further expressed its gratitude for the event in fostering a supportive and comfortable environment in Hong Kong, one that enabled athletes to perform at their peak. It emphasized that the HKCTA’s commitment and the event team’s relentless efforts have earned a respected standing within the tour and serve as a model for other events to follow.

The ’M’ Mark recognized event, which took place at Victoria Park from 25 October to 2 November, enjoyed an attendance of over 50,000 locals and fans from Mainland China and around the world throughout the event period. Chinese tennis pioneer and Asia's first women's Grand Slam singles champion, Li Na, served as Tournament Director for the second year. In addition to the return of star players such as Leylah Fernandez and Katie Boulter, the tournament also attracted first-time participants including Belinda Bencic and Alexandra Eala. Rising star of the game Victoria Mboko was crowned champion in the singles event, while the doubles title was won by Chinese duo Jiang Xinyu and Wang Yafan.
