Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025: Alex Eala challenges 2024 runner-up Katie Boulter


With the arrival of a constellation of the world’s top women’s tennis players in Hong Kong, all set to compete at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025, tennis fans can anticipate a thrilling week of world class tennis following the main single draw that took place today.

The draw, was officiated by Tournament Director and Chinese tennis pioneer and Asia's first female Grand Slam singles champion Li Na along with President of the HKCTA Mr. Michael Cheng, Hon. Sec of the HKCTA and Chairman of Hong Kong Tennis Open Steering Committee Mr. Oscar Chow and WTA Supervisor Ms. Clare Wood, who were joined by No.5 seed and Australian No. 1 Maya Joint, and No. 7 seed Romania’s Sorana Cirstea.

Tournament top seed and Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic faces-off against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and last-year’s Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open runner-up UK’s Katie Boulter takes on the Philippine’s Alexandra Eala, while former 2023 Hong Kong WTA 250 winner Leylah Fernandez returns to Hong Kong in a first-round encounter with China’s Wang Xiyu. Popular player Anna Kalinskaya will compete against Kamilla Rakhimova. Chinese star Zhang Shuai will take on Slovenia's Veronika Erjavec, while Canadian star Victoria Mboko will face Australia's Talia Gibson.

Romanian player Sorana Cirstea, who received a wildcard entry, will face Hungary's Dalma Galfi and expressed excitement about competing in Hong Kong. “It's my first time playing in Hong Kong, and I've always heard this is the year’s best WTA 250 tournament. Having my idol Li Na as the Tournament Director makes it even more special – I'm truly enjoying the experience," she revealed.

Local fans will be cheering on Team Hong Kong, China players Eudice Chong and Cody Wong with both awarded wild cards for the singles main draw. Eudice will face Netherland’s Suzan Lamens, while Cody must wait for news of her opponent following Sunday’s final singles qualifiers.

In a day of first-round qualifying games, local Team Hong Kong, China players, Maggie Ng lost to China's Lu Jia-Jing 6-2, 2-6, 4-6, and Kallista Liu was defeated by Japan's Haruka Kaji 6-7, 4-6.

The ‘Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025’ runs from today 25 October to 2 November. All qualifying matches on 25 and 26 October and main draw matches on Court 1 and Court 2 during the week will also be open to the public free of charge. The main draw's opening day on October 27 will feature the traditional 'People’s Monday', which will also be open to the public for free*. Public tickets are now available for purchase through Klook. Cat 1 tickets range from HK$220 to HK$970; and HK$160 to HK$760 for Cat 2 tickets. The Tournament Village is open to the public completely free of charge throughout the event.

A 50% discount is available for those aged 18 or below, full-time students, and seniors aged 60 or above on Cat 2 tickets.
